Stop and enjoy

I have to remind myself (often) to stop and enjoy the moment. I get caught up in neatness and order and forget to realize these things mean nothing to my children. They don't see 25 blocks scattered across the house but instead a village for their bugs. (plastic ones!!) Today, I felt awful for fussing at my son for getting dirty...

It was HOT here today. So while I was cooking dinner and feeding Becca, I let Molly and Jack run around in the sprinkler. I can see them from the back door and the flowers needed watering. So they ran and played and once when I looked out, I couldn't see them. I called for them and found them in the drive way squatting looking at something. I scolded them for leaving the back yard and as they got up all I could see was the mud on their suits, legs, and feet. I also noticed all the rocks they were gathering. Jack walked funny. So I asked him what he'd been up to. (mind you I am MAD that they were so dirty) Molly told me he had rocks in his bathing suit. I was now furious. "Jack, Why on earth would you put rocks in your suit? Get this mess cleaned up." He stripped down, put the rocks back in the drive way, cleaned off in the sprinkler and came up on the deck to me. "Mom, I just wanted to be a bird." me, "what are you talking about" J, "A Blue Jay mommy. I was pretending to be a Blue Jay who was going to lay some eggs. The rocks are kinda blue. Are Blue Jays really mean birds mom, cause I like them the best. See, I have my Blue Jay feather still. I'm sorry I'm dirty. I just wanted to be a bird." He looks up at me, shrugs and goes inside. I am dying, feeling like the worst mommy ever. How cute was he and all I cared about was the mess.

So, I vow, to slow down, and enjoy the moment(s). This time will be gone to soon.

Forgot 2 and Scrabble

I forgot to include these 2 pictures of Becca and Scott. Becca naps in the morning so we took turns staying at the house with her and the other took the Biggies to the beach. Scott got her dressed, but couldn't find her hat. I love these...
So, we play LOTS of Scrabble at the beach. Dana wins most of the time. Well, one night, it was my turn! I had to take a picture of my big win!
Yep, that's my 8 letter word! I used all my tiles! :)

Nags Head 2008

We had a great beach vacation this year. (not that we don't every year) I took lots of pictures, but it seems like most of them are of Becca. She stays in one place right now so it was easy to get lots of her unlike her siblings who were always on the go. During the week, Becca cut her third tooth, learned to sit without falling, Molly and Jack realized how much fun the surf could be and showed off their new swimming skills at the pool. It was a great week.

Here is my sister Courtney with her youngest Jillian.
My sister Laura with Courtney's middle daughter, Peyton.
We celebrated my Grandmother's 80th birthday at the beach. Here she is with 7 of her 13 great-grandchildren.
My cousin Brett with his girlfriend Rachael, who many of us met for the first time. We LOVED her.
PapPap was holding Becca and she was loving the attention!
Becca playing on the bed while we got ready for the beach.

Emily with Will!
Me and Becca. (new "do", not sure about it yet)

Molly playing on her boogie board her daddy got her. She loved being pulled on it in the surf.

Peyton, Erin, and Jack. Erin is my aunt Libbie's daughter. Molly and Jack think she is the coolest, most wonderful person in the world. Which, she is. All of Libbie's kids are great and my kids haven't stopped talking about them!
Molly having fun in the surf. She would just sing and dance around by herself.

This picture cracks me up. She looks so funny!

My three sitting by the shore!

If you look close, you can see B has sand everywhere. She kept reaching forward to get to the sand and face planting. It never seemed to bother her though.

We had a great week and I wish we could have stayed longer. I am looking forward to going to the Delaware shore with Scott's family in August.

Molly's BirthDAY

Here is my sweet girl on July 1, 2004. She was one year old. Here she is again on July 1, 2008. She is five years old. Wow. Wow. Wow.
Molly got to pick out where we would go out to eat on her birthday. She at first said she wanted to go to Old McDonald's (what she calls it). We redirected that answer to, "Chick-Fil-A has great milkshakes". If we have to go fast food, I prefer C-F-A. So when Scott home, we headed out to dinner. After dinner was the big part. Molly has been saying for a long time that she wanted a gold fish for her birthday. So after dinner, we went to the pet store find Goldie. Molly has a way with Scott and not only did she get Goldie, but she also got Spottie. Here she and Jack are saying good night to them.
I always had it in my head that Goldie & now Spottie too, would be in her room. No, they are on the sideboard in the dining room. Not sure how I feel about that. Well, except that Jack was trying to take the net a catch them the next day. When I asked him why he wanted to catch them, he said he wanted to take them to the bathroom and wash them off in the sink. Guess they are better off in the dining room for now.

I can't get over that my sweet Molly is 5 years-old. She loves to hear about the day she was born so here goes...

About 3-4 weeks before you were born Dr. Tate had to check how you were doing in my belly. She was examining Mommy and made a funny sound, like something wasn't quite right. I sat up and she said she felt a butt instead of a head. So she sent me down to have an ultrasound and sure enough, you were butt down. A Frank Breech to be exact. So Dr. Tate gave me some ideas of things to try at home to help you turn around the right way. Mommy did some really funny things, but none of them worked.

Dr. Tate was worried about me going in to labor and decided to schedule the date of your birth. Your father and I agreed to try an External Version in hopes you'd turn around. If it worked, she was going to start labor and you'd be born. If it didn't work, Dr. Tate was going to have to cut my tummy open to get you out. On July 1st, your father and I got to St. Mary's Hospital at 5:30 am. I went to my room and put on my robe and waited for Dr. Tate to arrive. She arrived at 7am as promised. Dr.Tate, with the help of a nurse and another doctor, used all their might to turn you around inside my belly. One person pushed at your feet and the other at your head. They twisted you around clock wise many times, but you never moved. It hurt more than I can describe and they gave me nothing for the pain. After many tries, we had to give up. I was going to have to wait until 2:00 pm for the scheduled c-section.

Later, while your daddy and I waited, your heart rate went from 145 beats to 5 beats in a split second. Just as we pushed the button for the nurse, Dr. Butener, Dr. Tate's partner, and 3 nurses ran in. The doctor yelled at your dad, which he later said he liked because he knew she was in charge, telling him to sit and not move. There were 2 people on either side of me. They put an oxygen mask on my face and raised my bed so my feet went up in the air and yelled to me to move from side to side. It was hard for me to move so fast so the nurses were helping me move. Finally, your heart rate went back up to normal. Dr. Tate, who was seeing patients, came in. The 2 doctors decided that I should have my epidural now in case that happened again. If you had to come in an emergency, they didn't want to have to put me to sleep. A little while later the anesthesiologist came in and gave me some medicine. I could not feel my legs and feet for a long, long time.

Shortly before 2:00, your Emmy, PapPap, and Nana came to see me. They visited for a little while and then went to go get lunch. I was happy to see them. The nurse came and got me ready to go to the OR. While I was wheeled to the OR, your daddy was in our room putting on his special suit that looked a lot like a space suit. He waited there for the nurse to come get him. I was on the table and they were cleaning my belly and putting up a curtain. The anesthesiologist was very nice and talked to me so I didn't feel so nervous. He told me what they were doing and what they were about to do. Dr. Tate had already started when your daddy walked in. We talked and then Dr. Tate looked over the curtain to say I'd feel a lot of pressure and tugging. She was ready to pull you out! The pulling and tugging didn't hurt, but it sure felt strange. She pulled you out and looked over to us and said"It's a Girl!!" Your daddy kissed me many times and then got up to watch them clean you up. You cried a little, then a lot. After they cleaned you up, they handed you to daddy and he sat down next to me while they closed me up. You were so little and pink and very cute. As Dr. Tate worked, she told me you were stuck up under my rib and that your cord was less than 10 inches long. You would not have been able to go out the other way and if you had, something very bad would have happened. You knew what you were doing up there in my tummy all along.

I went back to my room and daddy went out to the waiting room to share the good news. Lots of people came to see you on your birthday. You were loved deeply from the very beginning by many people. I love you to sweet Molly. More than I can say. You came into this world in a unique way and it has been your personality ever since. I hope for you a life time of joy, laughter, art, and great conversations with people you love. Happy 5th Birthday.

Molly's Birthday Party

We had Molly's birthday party on June 28th at our house. It might have been the hottest day ever. We read about this woman who brings "a zoo to your house" and thought it would be great since Molly loves animals. The kids had fun and seemed to love all the animals. I admit that it wasn't exactly what she promised and so I was rather disappointed. It didn't seem like the kids noticed or cared and that's all that really matters.

Here is Joseph loving on the the goat. He really LOVED the goat. Riley not looking so sure. Isn't he the cutest thing ever?
The kids checking out the rabbit. Jordan loved being able to hold the rabbit. Yeah, my sister Emily. She did to me at Molly's party what she did to me ALL THE TIME as children. She put a creepy crawly on me to see/hear me scream. Here she is very proud of herself!!!!
A few animals tried to make a break for it. At one time, we had a goose and duck heading for the road and the goat running around eating my flowers. Here is Jack chasing the goat.
Molly had a yummy ice-cream cake!

Me and the birthday girl.
The next morning, we opened gifts after breakfast. Molly loved this part as you can well imagine.

Dad and Dana gave the newest grandchildren a beach towel for the beach. Here is sweet Becca with PapPap.
Heat and escaping animals aside, it was a great birthday party. Thanks to all who were able to come and make it so special to Molly.

Cute pictures

I was getting Molly and Jack ready for camp last week and put Becca in her chair. Someone gave her this book and she looked so cute "reading" it.
Waiting for breakfast. (Em, feel free to comment on the pacifier)
Molly, with pigtails, ready for camp.
Poor Jack, wanted his picture taken too, but always closes his eyes!
Confidential to Emily from Molly, Jack, and Becca: Please do not boycott us because our mom is busy and tired at night and has trouble writing. We will make her do better, we promise. We love you.

Virus/ Old and New

Sorry to anyone checking in on us and finding nothing new. Our computer was sick and it took Scott and few weeks to cure it.

Anyway, we live in a house that is around 90 years old. When we bought it we knew we had many, many projects ahead. We finished one just before Molly's birthday party. The downstairs bathroom had old fixtures and an ugly parkay(?) floor. Before we moved in, we painted the room, ripped up the old floor and refinished the wood floors underneath. We had a hard time finding fixtures we liked so we waited, not wanting to rush into anything. Well we found what we liked and had it finished before the party.

I think it turned out well, but it came with a little drama. Nothing in an old house fits like it would in a new. New fixtures are meant for new houses and not not old...the plumber had a time making things fit and I am not looking forward to seeing his bill.

The bathroom before painting....

Old potty that used something like 10 gallons per flush.
New one that uses 1.6 gallons!!!
Old, gross sink.
New, pretty clean sink.
I am happy with the results. Later, we are thinking about ripping out the 70's shower stall and finding an old claw foot tub. The floors have to be refinished again because of some water damage from a leaking pipe to the old sink. We'll do it when we remodel the kitchen.
